Five Creative Expressions I’m Thankful For

Welcome to Wednesday Waypoints, your midweek hygge inspiration. Each week, I’ll share a small collection of things to brighten your day. Whether books I’m loving, favorite blog posts, cozy shopping selections, or even a short excerpt to savor.

What is hygge (pronounced “hoo-gah”)? According to Visit Denmark, “In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people.”  So grab a cuppa, slow down, and enjoy.

About Today's Currated List

Before the holiday rush begins, I’m pausing to reflect on five creative expressions that mean the most to me.

List

    Reading

If you’re reading this, you likely know about my book blog where I share about books.

Of course, I don’t share about all the books I read (I’m over 130 right now for the year) and my TBR shelf is two books deep (and it’s not even Christmas yet).

However, you can also follow me on Instagram where I love sharing about books and taking pretty pictures of books.

I’d love to see you there!

    Writing

Storytelling has long been one of my favorite things to do. The fact I can make a career out of it is beyond my wildest dreams!

Even so, writing is as much for my mental health as it is because I enjoy sharing my fiction. I process through story and that’s why I love writing tales of finding home and hope in hard times.

    Crafting

I love making things. As a young girl, my grandma taught me to crochet. I don’t have as much time to do that now as I used to, so I’ve turned to other crafts over the years. Crafts that would pile up without a place.

Then I had the fun idea to share those crafted items with you! Thus, Hearth Spot Handmade was  born.

Hearth Spot Handmade is a cozy corner of my author shop where stories meet craft.

Each piece is made or curated with a 1930s make-do-and-mend spirit — artisan journals, bookish treasures, and hygge gifts to bring a little light into your day.

Perfect for book lovers, journal keepers, and cozy gift giving.

    Photography

I love taking nature pictures. It brings me such joy! And now, my boys encourage me to stop on the way to school in the morning to capture the sunrise over Lake Michigan. It’s different every day and I love capturing that!

I’ve been trying to take more pictures that showcase the beauty around me. If you’d like to see them, I pin them to my Through My Lens board on Pinterest.

    Cooking

I love to cook, however health doesn’t allow me to do it as often as I’d like. So, when I can, it adds an extra layer of fun to the opportunity. Even more so because my boys love to participate.

Here’s the creative part, though: I am almost incapable of following a recipe. Seriously. I can’t. Sure, I have recipe books, but I’m not sure the last time I cracked one open.

No, it’s much more fun to avoid the measuring spoons and add a bit of this and a dash of that. I call it my Italian side since that’s how my Italian grandma cooked.

Not to mention, food is one of the best ways to bring people together. Which is why I love hosting Thanksgiving.

    Share the Tea

I’d love to hear what resonated with you about this book — feel free to leave a comment. I always reply, though if it’s your first time posting I’ll need to approve it before it appears.

And if you’d like to support my blog and help keep it free, you can always buy me a tea.

    Ciao, and thanks for visiting!

The best way to stay connected is through my weekly email, Fireside News. You’ll receive cozy updates, behind-the-scenes book notes, and a complimentary historical romance novelette when you subscribe.

Until next time, may your reading bring both light and encouragement.

    Happy reading!
    ~ Danielle.
