About Madison's Mission

Step into the captivating world of Boldt Castle in 1903, where dreams are forged in the fires of adversity and love.
Madison Murray, the devoted maid to the legendary Louise Boldt, harbors a singular mission—to care for her ailing mistress while hiding her own painful past. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Emmett O’Connor, the distinguished foreman overseeing Boldt Castle’s extravagant construction. Their connection sparks with promise, yet the chasm of class difference and hidden secrets loom large.
Just as their budding romance begins to flourish, tragedy strikes, shattering their world. A deadly accident leaves Emmett wrestling with guilt and at the center of an investigation that could unravel everything he holds dear. Then Madison finds herself ensnared in a dangerous coverup that threatens her very life.
When Mrs. Boldt passes away, Madison is left reeling—jobless and burdened by the weight of her perceived failures. In a world filled with uncertainty, can she summon the strength to move forward and confront her past? Will Emmett rise above his challenges to forge a future alongside the woman who has captured his heart?

Author Interview
What is something interesting readers would enjoy learning about you?
I grew up in the Thousand Islands and spent many summer days exploring the very places I now write about. That personal connection brings my stories to life in a deeply meaningful way—especially in Madison’s Mission, where the setting almost becomes its own character. Readers might also enjoy knowing that I was once the editor of Thriving Family magazine with Focus on the Family, which helped shape my passion for weaving faith into storytelling—something Madison and Emmett’s journey reflects so beautifully.
What makes up your ideal reading environment?
Give me a cozy chair, a cup of hot tea, and I’m in heaven. I especially love reading during a gentle rain or with the crackle of a fire nearby—anything that sets a peaceful, immersive atmosphere where I can truly get lost in the story. It’s not unlike how I imagine Madison finding comfort in simple, quiet moments by the water, reflecting on her past and praying about her future.
What does a day in the life of your characters look like?
In the Gilded Age, a day in the life of my characters might begin with a stroll along the river or a boat ride to a neighboring island. For the wealthy, there were social calls, networking, and elaborate meals. For those like Madison and Emmett—caretakers, servants, and craftsmen—their days were full of purpose-driven labor. Yet even in the bustle of such a life, moments of faith, personal discovery, and unexpected romance find their way into their routines, just as they do in Madison’s Mission.
What was your favorite scene to write in this story?
One of my favorite scenes in Madison’s Mission was the quiet moment Madison and Emmett shared beneath the stars, with the gentle lap of the river in the background. It was a tender exchange filled with emotional honesty and vulnerability. That scene captures the heart of their relationship and the healing journey they’re both on—something I think many readers will resonate with.
What unique research was required to write this story?
Writing Madison’s Mission meant diving into the Boldts’ world, a lady’s maid duties, Irish immigration patterns, Gilded Age customs, and even how a construction foreman would manage building a castle on an island. I explored historical maps, vintage postcards, and real-life accounts from the Thousand Islands region to make sure every detail—from Madison’s journal entries to Emmett’s Irish brogue—felt authentic and alive.
What was the inspiration behind your story?
My inspiration always begins with the setting. The Thousand Islands are rich with history and charm, and I love imagining the lives of those who once walked the same shores. For Madison’s Mission, the idea of a young woman grieving her past while uncovering purpose in the present came to me as I stood looking out over the water. And then I wondered how Boldt Castle could’ve been built in the early 1900s. Pair that with themes of healing, faith, and unexpected love, and the story unfolded naturally.
What did you learn while writing this story?
Each book teaches me something new, but Madison’s Mission reminded me how resilient the human heart can be. Madison lost so much—her family, her sense of belonging—but through faith, new friendships, and a slow-building love, she finds purpose again. Her journey reminded me personally that God can bring beauty from ashes.
What encouragement do you hope readers will take away from your story?
I hope readers are reminded that no matter the hardships we face, God is always at work behind the scenes—restoring, healing, and guiding us toward His best. Madison’s Mission is ultimately a story of hope, reminding us that love rooted in faith can overcome even the deepest sorrow and that purpose often rises out of pain.
