A police officer will do anything to catch the serial killer that got away—even if it means playing a deadly game in the icy wilderness.

Sweetwood Falls, Yukon, has seen too much terror for one small town. Corporal Aurora Hunt still blames herself for not catching the Shadow Box Killer before five women lost their lives. The killings stopped two years ago, and her colleagues believe the murderer is dead. But Aurora isn’t convinced.

A chilling discovery on a winter’s morning confirms her fears. The crime scene is all too familiar—a woman’s mutilated body, and beneath it, a box containing a gruesome souvenir. But this time, there’s a special message, daring Aurora to play a game that will lead her into the wilderness to try and save the next victim.

Canadian Watcher Squad survivalist Kordell Greene is part of the past that Aurora has tried to put behind her. He’s also the only person equipped to guide her through this deadly terrain. But somehow, the killer knows all their secrets. Solving cryptic clues as they battle the elements, Aurora and Kordell must confront dark truths they’ve withheld, even from each other. And always, the Shadow Box Killer is one step ahead, drawing them deeper into a twisted game where the slightest mistake may be their last.

Author Interview with Darlene L. Turner

What is something interesting readers would enjoy learning about you?

DLT: I love going to the movies by myself! When I finish a proposal, manuscript or some other milestone, I sometimes treat myself to a movie during the day. Such fun! Wait, I just passed in my next book. Any good movies playing?

What makes up your ideal reading environment?

DLT: Give me a cozy log cabin in the woods overlooking the lake with majestic mountains as the backdrop. I’m in my jammies, coffee cup in hand, sitting in front of the fire with a great book! Oh…of course, I’m snuggled in a plaid plush blanket! Perfection. Although, knowing me…I’m probably wondering what’s lurking in the woods outside the door. ?

What was your favorite scene to write in this story? And why?

DLT: I think one of my favorite scenes to write was when the Shadow Box Killer leads Aurora and Kordell into the basement (no! don’t go into the basement! ? ) of an abandoned creepy psychiatric institute where SBK forces Kordell to tell Aurora his darkest secret or else she’ll die. Lots of emotions in that scene.

What unique research was required to write this story?

DLT: Different types of ciphers and how they work. So fun and interesting. There are  many!

What was the inspiration behind your story?

DLT: I’ve had this story in my head for years, and I’m so glad it’s finally coming to life! It started when I first read about “geocaching” and that sparked the idea of boxes (aka caches). I thought it would be fun to include the same sort of game in a thriller. Mind you, the story evolved a little differently and my game isn’t quite like geocaching, but that’s where it all started.

What encouragement do you hope readers will take away from your story?

DLT: We are beacons in this world of darkness. I pray that readers see through the pages of Coordinates of Death that no matter what rough storms we go through, God will be with us in the darkness and make us stronger.
