Today, I’m thrilled to share the cover reveal of
Investigation of a Journalist
Harbored in Crow’s Nest, book six.
The Story behind the Story
I’ve heard from so many of you about how much you’ve been looking forward to Buck’s story. I knew from the days I wrote Confessions to a Stranger that Buck would get his time in the spotlight.
At first, I thought he and Mindy would end up together … but as you will see in Sheltered by the Doctor, another hero stars opposite her.
So who could be paired with Buck? What heroine could love a man who walks the line of legality and power?
Funny story? Mindy helped me figure it out as I wrote Sheltered by the Doctor. And you’ll catch a glimpse of her answer—and a hint toward some of Buck’s secrets—toward the end of Mindy’s story.
For now, however, our mysterious heroine appears on the cover alongside Buck himself.
But first! Here’s a quote from Chapter One:
Buck Wilson did not deserve a second chance. He knew it down to his marrow. Yet here he stood, outside Chicago’s Union Station, in the very town where he’d left all his hopes and dreams. The detective who wanted to arrest him at his side.
Two years in Crow’s Nest and the journey is drawing to an end. It’s bittersweet for me as the author. I love the characters in Crow’s Nest and I’ve loved giving them a chance at a happily ever after.
I don’t read reviews often, but I noticed a common theme among the more critical reviews of Confessions to a Stranger (book one). Readers tended to comment about the loose ends. The quick ending. The desire for an epilogue to see how David and Adaleigh’s story turns out.
In subsequent stories, we have watched those threads grow and tangle. As one couple after another gets a happily ever after, engagements have been celebrated and marriages have begun. But there is one wedding that we have not yet seen. One that has been building since Adaleigh Sirland first arrived in Crow’s Nest.
Which brings me to Investigation of a Journalist. So much of Buck’s story bookends Confessions to a Stranger. Even the titles. (The middle books use the word ‘the’ in the title whereas books one and six use ‘a’). Instead of a single woman arriving with the hopes of staying a stranger in Crow’s Nest, a different woman arrives with investigation on her mind—both using an assumed name.
My cover designer, Roseanna White, captured this feeling beautifully when she created the cover. For example, perhaps you’ll recognize parts of the background as the same building from the first book, but in reverse.
Intrigued and ready for the grand reveal?

About the Book
A second chance to set the record straight, and rekindle a lost love.
Wisconsin, 1931—Buck Wilson refuses to accept failure as his reward for all he has sacrificed, but he’s kept secrets for too long to be believed. With his freedom on the line, there’s only one person he trusts to mine for the true story: the woman he left one month before their wedding.
All investigative journalist Caroline Wagoneer wants is to shine a light on the truth wherever darkness threatens to obscure it. Which is the only reason she agrees to help her ex-fiancé when he begs for her to go undercover in Crow’s Nest. What she discovers paints Buck in a whole new light.
With lies and rumor hemming them in, Buck and Caroline realize their love may be doomed on the altar of altruism. Unless love can truly conquer all.
Welcome to Crow’s Nest, where danger and romance meet at the water’s edge.
