Welcome to First Line Friday!
Today I’m featuring

The Veteran’s Vow by Jill Lynn.

Could his biggest fear be what he needs to heal?

After a traumatic brain injury, military vet Behr Delgado refuses the one thing that could help him—a service dog. But Ellery Watson is sure the perfect pup will change Behr’s life and offers to work with him one-on-one. As Behr sets about overcoming his fears, Ellery’s surprised to find herself opening up about her troubled nephew. Will family obligations force them to deny what’s in their hearts?

[Graphic Text]: Ellery Watson’s job description did not include tracking down veterans at their homes to investigate why they hadn’t shown up for training, but when she realized her no-show lived in her town, she’d been unable to resist.

My Review

The Veteran’s Vow by Jill Lynn is part of Love Inspired K-9 Companions collection.

With every book, it seems, Jill Lynn rises on my list of favorite authors. The Veteran’s Vow is a wonderful story full of emotional depth and real characters.

I identified with Behr Delgado – while he suffers from a TBI (traumatic brain injury) due to a wartime injury, I battle chronic migraine and the symptoms often overlap. Jill Lynn did an amazing job of bringing those struggles to life in a respectful, real-life way.

And Ellery Watson is a breath of fresh air! Her life may not be easy, but she has a giving heart and a cheerful smile readers can feel though the pages. Of course, Margo, the lab Ellery is attempting to place with Behr, is adorably sweet, too.

All-in-all, I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it.

  1. My first line is from a Love Inspired by Susie Dietze releasing in April: A Need To Protect.
“There’s a man in the yard.”

  2. Yes, good opening. As a reader I want to know who and what and why and all those questions are answered right in that first sentence. Glad you enjoyed the book. My first line Friday is up as well.
