Fire Storm is the second book in Nancy Mehl’s Kaely Quinn Profiler series. Kaely has returned home to help her brother care for her mom, but unable to turn away from a community in need, she takes on a serial arsonist. Unofficially.
Noah Hunter won’t let Kaely face this threat alone. Especially since she continually puts herself in life-threatening situations without seemingly to care that she could die. He’s come to care for her and refuses to loose a friend if he can help it.

As with many mystery books, I often try to figure out the ending, but Nancy Mehl knows suspense. Every time it seemed obvious a character was the arsonist, Kaely figured it out, too. And then disproved it! Or at least left enough doubt that I wasn’t sure whether I was on the right track or not. Because of that, the book read very quickly.
My struggle with the Kaely Quinn books is actually due to how well Nancy Mehl writes. The bad guys, the serial killers, are way too real. It’s a tad freaky, to be honest. And Kaely has some baggage of her own that simultaneously makes me have sympathy for her and be a little nervous of her, too. Only a masterful writer could accomplish such characters!
You don’t necessarily need to read Mind Games first, but it does give a better understanding into Kaely’s way of thinking and the relationship between Noah and Kaely. So, if you’re a fan of thrillers with a touch of romance, definitely read Fire Storm.
