Dark Ambitions by Irene Hannon is the third book in her Code of Honor series. A couple pages in and I was reminded why she’s one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. She creates the best characters.
Heather Shields left the police force to become a PI with Phoenix, Inc. If you’ve read Irene’s Private Justice series, you’ll recognize Heather’s coworkers. As the only female PI in the company, she hesitates to work with her new client when she suspects he won’t respect her because she’s a woman.

However, that is not why Rick Jordan isn’t sure about taking his best friend’s advice and contacting Phoenix, Inc. to see if they can help him track down an old Army buddy. He immediately recognizes Heather’s tenacity and knows it will be a great asset for finding answers. His pause has another reason all together.
Ever since I was first introduced to Rick Jordan in Irene’s first two Code of Honor books, I couldn’t wait to read his story. A former Army Night Stalker, his back story intrigued me. I especially liked seeing how his sense of honor came through in this book.
Dark Ambitions incorporated more alternate points of view than I’m used to seeing in romantic suspense, however, it made guessing the identity of the bad guy even more difficult. I would have liked to see more of the story unfold from Heather and Rick’s perspective, especially since I liked them as characters, but it didn’t take away from the plot.
If you’re looking for a Romantic Suspense novel to read, I recommend picking up a copy of Dark Ambitions. Irene Hannon has a way of writing characters and dialogue that I love. I always enjoy her books.
