The End of the Magi, by Patrick W. Carr, mixes Biblical Fiction with an epic quest like those found in the Fantasy genre.

It follows a young magi, Myrad, as he simultaneously flees for his life and follows the star pointing to the new Messiah. He meets friends, foes, danger, and success throughout the journey. But will he find what he ultimately seeks?

Fans of quests will love The End of the Magi. It is easy to forget that the story is based on the three wise men from the story of Jesus’ birth as Myrad travels across desserts to Jerusalem. It isn’t until the end that the Biblical story of the magi intersects with Myrad’s story.

I wanted to like The End of the Magi. The idea of bringing the three wise men to life was intriguing. But fantasy quests are not among my favorite tales, and since this one fits that genre so well, it failed to hold my attention.

However, if a quest story is the type of book you would like, definitely pick up The End of the Magi. Hearing the Christmas Story from a completely unique perspective is definitely worth the experience of reading this book.
