Storm Rising is the first book in Ronie Kendig’s latest series, The Book of the Wars. Leif Metcalfe, who first appeared in The Tox Files, now leads his own team as they track down the apocalyptic artifact The Book of the Wars.
Iskra “Viorica” Todorova is also after The Book if the Wars. A skilled operative and assassin, she beats Leif to the book. But when Leif catches up to her, they must decide whether their reasons for wanting the book will allow them to trust each other enough to work together. Especially once the book disappears again.
Ronie Kendig is masterful at creating a world where man-made storms and apocalyptic literature come to life with realistic detail. The action is incredibly believable and the deep struggles of the characters is relatable, as well as heartbreaking.
Storm Rising wasn’t a book I wanted to put down, which made it a great holiday weekend read! Now to impatiently wait for the second book in The Book of the Wars: Kings Falling.
