Mayhem on the Orient Express, by Kylie Logan, is one of the best cozy mysteries I have read in a while. The story begins with Bea Cartwright having recently moved to South Bass Island in Lake Erie to begin a Bed and Breakfast. However, her neighbor’s cat keeps using her flowers as a litter box.

The cat isn’t the only neighborhood problem. Bea’s other neighbor, Kate, hates the construction traffic the B & B has brought to the street and the music emanating from the house of the cat-loving Chandra. Their squabbles land them in front of a judge who orders them to attend a library book discussion group. Together.

Luella attempts to keep the peace between the group members, but it’s orange chicken from the local Chinese restaurant that does the trick. Or maybe it’s that the four women discover the owner dead. Together, they determine to discover who killed the man who makes their favorite dish in town.

Mayhem on the Orient Express is a mystery full of twists and turns and plenty of suspects. Plus, the four members of the book discussion group make plenty of drama. Kylie Logan did a fantastic job of drawing out the story while drawing in the reader. It’s a great first book in the League of Literary Ladies series.
