Reading Wednesday | The Cow said Neigh

For a fun children’s board book, take a look at The Cow said Neigh: a farm story by Rory Feek. It’s brightly colored pages, illustrated by Bruno Robert, will draw in young readers. Add a few sound effects and this story can make children giggle at its silliness.

Whether as adults or children, how many of us wonder what it would be like to have someone else’s talents? What if I was a pilot, making trips across the Atlantic? What if I was a scientist, discovering a new sea creature? What if I was a firefighter, helping rescue people from burning buildings? 20181128_093548

The animals in The Cow said Neigh are asking similar questions. The cow wants to be like the horse, wild and free. But the horse wants to be like the duck who gets to swim all day. And when these thoughts cross their mind? Out comes a sound they don’t make; the cow neighs and the horse quacks! What is the farmer to do?

Little readers who know what animals are supposed to say will love how mixed up these farm animals become. They will also learn they aren’t the only ones who see the grass greener on the other side of the poverbial fence. But by the end of the story, perhaps they will learn another lesson: sometimes we just need to laugh.
