Reading Wednesday | A Batter of Life and Death

Books Review, Cozy Mystery, Mystery, Writing Spot

A Batter of Life and Death is book two of Ellie Alexander’s A Bakeshop Mystery series. It’s Fall in Ashland, Oregon and Jules Capshaw is welcoming a reality baking show to her family’s bakery, Torte. When she’s coerced into participating as one of the bakers, she finds herself in the middle of another murder investigation.

Chef Marco has several secrets, but which one got him murdered? Jules claims she won’t investigate, but both her mother and the police officer she used to date know she won’t leave the investigation alone. Having been injured during her last foray into discovering a murderer, she promises to be careful. 20181001_110923

The more Jules digs into Chef Marco’s life, the more people she discovers have motive to want him dead. But which one is willing to take that wish into his or her own hands? And, will Jules figure it out before her questions make her the murderer’s next victim?

A Batter of Life and Death is a fantastic addition to the Bakeshop Mystery Series. Jules is a relatable heroine with a fun cast of fellow characters in her life. Check out my review of Book One and stay tuned for my review of Book Three. I’m looking forward to continuing the series!
