The Other Woman by Hank Ryan: a book review

Books Review, Mystery, Novels, Suspense/Thriller, Writing Spot

When I had the opportunity to meet Hank Phillippi Ryan during a book signing, I jumped at the chance. I hadn’t read one of her books yet, but as a writer, I enjoy hearing from other successful writers. She was delightful to listen to and I had to read one of her books. I chose The Other Woman, first in her Jane Ryland series.

Jane Ryland is a Boston Reporter, starting a new job after being disgraced for protecting a source. Her boss refuses to let her cover the possible serial killer, instead assigning her puff pieces on the political candidates in the upcoming election. Through Jane’s tenacity, she uncovers a possible mistress, potential sabotage, and link to the Bridge Killings.20180321_100645522614274.jpg

Detective Alex Brogan is Jane’s friend – they cannot be more than that no matter how much both may desire it. He is the detective assigned to the possible serial killer. However, he doesn’t think there is a Bridge Killer. However, he can’t even identify the victims. When the third victim connects to Jane, Alex tries to keep her away from the investigation for her own safety, but Jane is a reporter and won’t stop until she unravels the truth.

Hank Phillippi Ryan’s writing keeps the pages turning with journalistic pop. The intricate storyline kept me guessing and the thriller aspect made me hope Jane got out alive. I definitely recommend The Other Woman and will be putting the next Jane Ryland book on my To-Be-Read list.
