Places Hidden by Tracie Peterson is a mystery set in turn of the century San Fransisco. Camri Coulter’s brother has disappeared and Camri leaves everything to find him.

On her way to San Fransisco, Camri makes the acquaintance of two other young women, each going to San Fransisco for their own reasons. The three of them agree to help one another, starting with finding Camri’s brother Caleb. However, the deeper they dive into their search, the more likely it is they will not find Caleb alive.20180321_1005231353853433.jpg

Over the course of book, Camri comes across three different men who also offer to help: Caleb’s best friend, Caleb’s boss, and the man Caleb got out of a murder charge. Camri must navigate these relationships on her way to the truth. Will the men help her? Will it cost their lives? Will the political machine be too powerful to overcome?

I enjoyed Places Hidden. It was an easy read that kept pages turning. While I knew this book was published by a Christian publisher, I was surprised at the amount of religious-speak that filled the pages. I love watching a character wrestle with God through the pages of a book, but frankly, I expected more nuance from such a seasoned writer as Tracie Peterson.

In spite of the obvious messages, I found myself caring about what happened to the characters. That is why the ending left me unsatisfied. This is book one in the Golden Gate Secrets series, so I am hopeful there will be sequels that will finish the character’s story. I look forward to finding out what happens next.
