This past year has been one of the biggest adventures of my life. It’s held ups and downs, twists and turns, good fortune and unexpected challenges. Most of all, it has all revolved around becoming a mom.
We had just gotten a puppy, so when we somewhat unexpectedly discovered we had a little one on the way, I experienced a gamut of emotions. As excitement fought its way to the top, my pregnancy got off to a difficult start. For a lot of women, morning sickness is common. Mine was all day sickness and lasted nearly the entire nine months. Work was challenging enough, so my writing slid off to the side.
Halfway through, we found out we would have a son and my excitement surged to the forefront. I love building things, know my superheroes, and thoroughly enjoy all things sports. I couldn’t wait to be a mom of a boy.
Then came the next twist. If you have met me, you know I’m small. Baby weight made me look like a roly-poly Italian mama, but underneath, I was still small-boned. That led to difficulty walking. But that pain was nothing compared to developing a cyst that wouldn’t let me sit.
Through all of this, our unborn son was incredibly healthy. One doctor even commented that he seemed to know what was going on with me and so he was being an extra good boy just for his mama. That just made me want to meet our little guy even more!
Delivery day came. My small size led to a traumatic labor and c-section. Again, our boy rolled with it, showing no signs of distress. He was perfect. In the end, I may have had a difficult recovery ahead, but we had a healthy, happy newborn son.
Three months later, M is growing and I’m gearing up to go back to work, including a return to my writing. My hope is to blog again more regularly come 2018. Being a mom, especially one battling an invisible illness like Migraine, is giving me deeper insights that I’m sure I’ll share along the way. In the meantime, I plan to enjoy the holidays, the most wonderful time of the year!
Oh how I remember this day. I waited very anxiously by my phone hoping to hear that you had been delivered!!!! And waited…..and waited….. I thought, she probably gave birth ages ago and has fallen asleep from exhaustion. Nope. You were still in agony on a marathon labor. You pushed for longer than many people are in labor. Then, you faced a brand new and unexpected plan and rolled with it when the doc said the baby was stressed, and they were taking you to surgery. I can imagine how deep a ditch that trauma can dig in a Mom’s mind. I’m thankful for the words of encouragement you were able to give to me because of your experience. Your friendship and understanding helped me while I faced my own years of postpartum darkness. Love you so so much.
Awww, love you so, so much my friend! Thank you for such sweet words. You are an incredible blessing to me! ❤❤
