Next Saturday, October 8, 2016, is Indie Author Day. Libraries across the nation will host events related to authors who publish through small independent presses and self-publishing. Besides local events, at 1 pm Central, library communities will be able to participate in a digital program featuring a Q & A with industry leaders.
Manitowoc, Wisconsin Public Library will be one of the libraries hosting Indie Author Day. The day includes a local authors panel, the digial community Q & A, and other published authors whose books will be available for purchase. According to Manitowoc Public Library’s Indie Author Day coordinator, the goal for the day is provide an opportunity for patrons to learn about writing and publishing while also meeting local authors.
I will be one of the panelists at Manitowoc’s event. The Q & A session begins at 11 am and features five local authors. After each of the authors has had a chance to introduce themsevles and their work, the floor will be opened for Q & A. All are welcome. Panelists will also have a table of their books.
The publishing industry is changing every day, it seems. Small presses and self-publishing are one avenue that authors take to see their work in print (or electronic) form. This should be a helpful event for those interested in learning more about the process.
