One Paris Summer by Denise Swank: a book review

BookLook, Books Review

Everyone dreams of going to Paris. Except Sophie Brooks. She has to go to the City of Lights because her father is getting remarried. What she finds there is more than just an uncomfortable family dynamic, she discovers Paris may not be that bad after all.

One Paris Summer was written by best-selling author Denise Swank and published by Blink, a Zondervan inprint dedicated to publishing non-overtly Christian books. This information is what first prompted me to pick up One Paris Summer. I wasn’t disappointed.

Geared toward teens and containing a distinctly romantic feel, One Paris Summer was much140_245_book-1954-cover more. Yes, Sophie had boys she had to deal with, but she also had family history and dynamics that created a turbulent situation. She already had a broken relationship with her father, but now she had a step-mother, too. Her brother came along for the trip and before then, they weren’t close. Because of her father’s marriage, Sophie also gained a step-sister who thoroughly hated her. It all made a great story so that following Sophie through the ups and downs of her time in Paris kept me engaged and rooting for her success until the conclusion.

Without spoiling the story, I wouldn’t have ended the story quiet like the author did. Perhaps it’s my inner romantic. When you read it, perhaps it will be the perfect ending for you.
